Another reason why attics are the best place for them to start is the fact that they are near the roof. And when there is leakage, naturally some parts of this area will be damp. Another reason is when the place is not ventilated properly. Pipes that are not insulated well enough can also be the source of their growth.

You also need to take out all the stuff that is in the attic. Some of the fungi might have attached in there. And to get rid of them, you have to take them outside where they can dry out. The place needs to be sealed shut and with the use of a dehumidifier, you can dry the mold formation.

It would be better if you do the cleaning and removal proper if all the mildew have dried up. There is a chance that you would not get rid of them completely if they are not dried properly. To do this, you have to cover up all the entry ways of the air which would include the vents. And with the use of a fan, this would be dry up the mildew.

In Wauwatosa, Winsconsin there are several measures that they do to try to prevent the growth of these fungi. One is to improve the ventilation by making the vents functional.
