Outdoor Tiles Have Options To Please

By Mike Hartwick

There are many materials to choose from when planning or upgrading your outdoor space. However, most are simply dull when compared to the beauty of outdoor tiles. With many types to meet your needs they are almost always the best option.

Perhaps the most impressive of all outdoor tiles are ones that are made from stone. Each individual tile is unique since they have variations in their surface texture and also color. This also makes them very enticing. If you prefer tiles that are all the same exact color and texture there are many choices as well.

For an easy to install project you might want to consider outdoor deck tiles. These come in an array of very tough and weather resistant woods such as Eucalyptus for example. Composite tiles that are manufactured from a combination of synthetic and natural materials are also widely available too. Deck tiles can be an excellent way to save some money as they they can be installed by you instead of having to hire a professional.

Rubber outdoor tiles can be used to help create safety. They have a grip which is meant to prevent slips and falls even in really wet areas. For around the pool, hot tub, and in spaces prone to flooding they can be a lifesaver. Most are porous, so water drains all the way from the top of the tile to the ground below, leaving you with grip that is functional no matter how wet the conditions.

Just like the tiles indoors, porcelain and ceramic can be used as outside as well. However, while you can used glazed tiles on the wall, for outdoor floor tiles only ones that are not glazed should be installed. That's because glazed tiles would simply be way too slippery. You'll also need to remember that since they will be exposed to the elements and heavier use outside they will need to have a PEI rating of at least four.

After you decide on a type of tile you will also have to consider the tile pattern that looks best in your space. For something simple yet reliable both the running bond and straight lay are common choices. If you prefer a more complicated layout, the Versailles is a classic that works especially well in big areas.

From beauty to safety and everything in the middle outdoor tiles have it all. And whether you prefer natural or synthetic there is something for everyone. Not to mention a tile pattern to make them look their best!
