Vital Characteristics Of The Beauceron Dog Breed

By Barbara Kelly

There is no denying the fact that dogs perform perfectly well as pets. Despite this, not all breeds are safe for a home with children. What you need is a pet that has the right temperament for the safety of your family. One such kennel is the Beauceron dog breed.

Generally, this dog has a large athletic body. It has long been considered a working dog owing to its obedience and ease of training. Its body length is slightly greater than its height. What makes it such a beauty is its long head that is symmetrical with its body shape.

Unlike many domestic kennel species, it has a skull length that is equal to the length of its broad pointed muzzle. Its eyes are also dark brown in color and are generally hard to miss. Its ears are half pricked and high pointing.

In terms of temperament, the Beauceron is obedient and has often displayed an eagerness to please. It is also quite brave and portrays a higher degree of intelligence as compared to most dogs. Its obedience makes it the perfect candidate for training as it quickly adapts to commands.

For years, it has been used in law enforcement in many countries owing to these traits. Its fearlessness, watchfulness and loyalty especially make it an asset for dangerous missions. It has been known to save countless lives of police officers in the line of duty as it easily detects danger.

This breed is also highly active and loves to exercise on open fields. For this reason, many communities that herd cattle and sheep use it as a herding kennel. On some occasions, a few dogs in the breed have tried to herd humans as well. However, a little training is all they need. Beaucerons love to herd sheep as they provide the perfect opportunity to make use of their high energy levels.

Without regular exercise, a Beauceron is bound to become agitated. Therefore, it is advisable to go for other breeds if you reside in a closed off environment and have no time to exercise your kennel. The kennel will always behave well provided it exercises.

Many dogs act violently when they come into contact with other breeds. However, this is not the case for this particular one. It behaves perfectly normally with other dogs and domestic animals such as cats. Even with this trait, it is advisable to keep it restrained when other breeds are nearby just in case.

Another good trait is that the breed is pretty good with kids, which should be a plus if you are a parent. It acknowledges human beings as being authoritative figures and cannot harm children. It easily takes commands from members of a family provided it is treated well.

The breed also has a generally fast growth rate. A puppy can reach 40 pounds within 3 months. At times, this can be too much for a child looking for a pet to play with as he grows up. Despite their fast growth rate, they take considerably long to mature. Proper socialization is the trick for raising your puppy to be well behaved.
