What You Need To Know Before Shopping For Holland Lop Bunnies For Sale TX

By Michelle Robinson

For some individuals who love animals, having a cat or a dog is out of the question. It may be because of allergies or they may not have enough space for a dog. Some individuals may be looking at one of the Holland lop bunnies for sale TX and considering them as pets. Here are a few things that you need to do to ensure that any bunny you bring home is as healthy and happy as possible.

Rabbits can be just as playful and affectionate as dogs can be so it is surprising that they are not more popular as pets. They can be quite clean especially if they have enough room to move around. They can be litter trained just like a cat or dog can be. It may take some time and persistence but they can learn to go to the washroom in only one part of their pen.

Holland lops are quite small and are actually one of the smallest breeds of bunny around. Their normal top weight is about three and a half pounds for a purebred bunny. Some lops end up getting crossed with other breeds and their offspring can end up being larger than expected. Their fur is soft and fluffy but it is not as long as the fur that some rabbits have.

If you want your rabbit to settle in you might want to think about having some food and good quality treats on hand. Fruits and many vegetables are great to feed to your rabbit. Pellets are a great source of vitamins and hay will give your bunny the fiber it needs to ensure that it's digestive tract is working well.

When you look at rabbit cages in the pet store you will see that many look large enough. Ultimately, though, they are likely not going to have enough space for your rabbit to live happily. They love to race around and explore so a pen that can be put out in the main room of your home and which can be expandable may be better for your rabbit in the long run.

You may be tempted to visit a breeder to get your bunny but this may not always be the best idea. There are many rabbits in rescues and animal shelters that are in need of homes. If you are concerned about getting a rabbit that you think is small and then having it grow to a much larger size you might want to think about adopting an adult that is fully grown.

The health of your bunny is very important. Rabbits can suffer from a variety of different illnesses and tend to hide when they are sick. Look for eyes that are clear and not weeping liquid. If you are checking a rabbit over before bringing it home you might also want to make sure the teeth are in good shape and that the fur is plush and thick.

When you get your new bunny home it is important to give it time to acclimate. Don't try and pick your bunny up until it knows you. Give it time to sniff you and get used to your scent. Once it trusts you it may become affectionate but this may take a while. Then you will likely have a loving pet to enjoy for years to come.
