How To Restore A Piano

Restoring or refinishing a piano is a labor extensive process. However, this process can be done by doing it yourself with restorations supplies and tools. But if the piano is already old and holds a sentimental value to you, then hiring a professional with a high degree of experience and expertise is essential. If the pianos are old enough and has long gone past its prime, then restoring by yourself is an enjoyable task. When it comes with steinway piano refinishing, individuals can perform the process by themselves if they have the right tools.

There are many types of wood stain that could be applied on the instrument. This will remove the stains and marks that are not totally visible to the naked eye. Some stains that are made from age or dirt will still be removed by the wood stain. Be careful not to apply polyurethane varnishes because it cannot be applied on stains.

Apply the first coating of stain remover. A lint free rag has to be used for the process. A foam brush is also applicable. Put a few amounts of stain remover one area at a time and let it cool down for a few seconds. Wipe away the excess coating to prevent it from streaking.

All the interior parts must be covered. Use a sheet of plastic to cover all the parts that was removed and the interior as well. This will eliminate the instrument from getting dirty and dusty from the inside which might affect the overall maintenance. If the interior is not protected, there is a chance that some parts located inside will be affected by dirt.

Locate the instrument on the charts and find out how old it is. Top quality materials will not lessen its full worth because the important parts will stay in perfect shape. The inlays and ornate carvings and designs will make the instrument valuable even the structure and supports are already in poor conditions.

When coating, lightly sand it after the application. Use a steel wool or a fine grade sandpaper to sand the finishing coating. A few numbers of finishing touches while sanding will give it a professional sheen. This will take long periods of time so this must be done at least once only.

Choose the materials that are sold from reputable companies. Even though the prices are high and expensive, the quality is guaranteed and durability is there. Do not try to use low quality and defective products because this might damage the other parts.

Get referrals from your loved ones and friends. They may have undergone the whole process in the past and they can share some useful information that will be beneficial to you. Ask for more inquiries from a company to have the procedure prefect.

Call the companies and ask for estimation about the refinishing process. They will assess the instrument and see how much is the budget price estimated for it. Compare the prices between companies and acquire the service. Look for a company that is within your desired budget range.
