Talking Nicely With Catholic Grandparents

By Francis Riggs

If you need to try to patch things up with these people despite your differences, then this source can certainly help you with that. Be reminded that there is no need for you to fight with these individuals. They are old and their temper has nothing to do with the fact that they do love you.

For starters, you would have to be on the offensive side as much as possible. Keep in mind that it is not your fault that you have Catholic grandparents. You would just have to try to be on their good side until the day is over. If you would do that, then all of you would have a good time when you least expect it.

You should learn to relax. Take note that you share the same blood with these people. If you will behave that you have done something wrong even when that is not the case, then you will only be triggering the other party. The key is to avoid the spotlight and not the other way around. That is how you will have the freedom you wanted.

If they will start to talk about religion, then simply listen. Be reminded that you are not the main star of the show as of the moment. You will have to let the elders talk about what they are passionate in this world and realize that you will gain your turn once they have already gone home to their own place.

Lower the expectations that you have. If you would do that, then you would be able to control your emotions. Keep in mind that you cannot expect these people to shut up. They would talk whenever they please and you would just have to respect that. Besides, you would not be seeing these people for the rest of your life.

Never forget that you will always be the loser in this game simply because you are the grandchild. Have the concept that this is nothing personal. Faith is one of the few things that old people hold on to. If you will get that away from them, then you will be taking their life support as well. The concept can be as easy as that.

Never get drunk when you are in a heated argument. Yes, the alcohol will make you feel more confident but then, you will still end up in the losing. You will hurt the feelings of the people who raised your parents and you will start to feel bad about that. That can be the worst punishment that you can ever give to yourself.

Know where you stand when things go wrong. If you are already being humiliated in front of a lot of people for the choices that you have made in your life, then defend yourself. That is the only way that you would be able to keep your dignity intact.

Overall, balance things out. It may be hard but you have to make it. That is how you will still be able to enjoy your family vacation in the days to come.
